We had problems with bird mites on us from our aviary. We showered and used Denorex shampoo to wash with. Lather up and wait for about one minute before rinsing.
We have the same problem how did you solve this problem and how did you know it was from the birds
I discovered that I had Dust Mites. I have bad allergies that has gotten worse over the years. The chronic eye itching was horrible. The last month I start getting bites or shall I say an allergic reaction from the droppings. It was a living nightmare. My blood pressure went up and I became depressed particularly at bed time. I tried mostly everything that has been mentioned, I contacted an exterminator that was recommended by a church member. I also prayed very hard. The exterminator came out and I am fine now finally getting sleep and my house is much cleaner because I threw some things away that I did not need. Now I fear that they will come back so hopefully the advice and products mentioned can be used to keep them away. The exterminator said not to use anything after him so I will wait at least six months and he is coming back to check anyway. If you are having problems, call a professional. I know that it can be costly. I was lucky to get someone who gave be a very affordable price. I hope that you all get this resolve because It feels like you are in hell going through this.
What exterminator did you use? Please let me know
I also had a problem. I washed all bedding in hot water and used a hot dryer and vacuumed for weeks and finally got some relief.
Vacuum and dust your entire house the sprays will not work alone. Also launder at your bed linens.
I have had my carpet removed and thought that I would be rid of the dust mites. My spsrtment is infested I need a productthat can get rid of the dust mites and not just passify them after spending a lot of money. Is there such a product on the market? Hellllllp I am at the end of my rope. Thanks.

Hi Lorretta ,
I stopped cleaning due to bad back and can’t keep up with “them” . I’m going to try best de-humidifier ie; 40% air and hope that it kills them .
Food source ?….Me and two rescue dogs . I dust one week and next have to do all over again . You find any tips ?
All be well………….J.D. in TN.
No substitute for cleaning. Use allergin proof dust covers on mattresses and pillows, wipe down the walls and ceiling.Dust everything. It took me weeks to get rid of them.
I cant wait to try lysol.
Lysol worked immediately to kill mites within minutes plus I used Epsom salt with nearly empty breathe wash bottle with water to make paste for mites attacking skin. I needed something that works fast as this came from a motel room.
Not true!
Call Lysol or go to their website. It does not kill dust mites!
There’s no mention of the possible effect on pets. I have an 18 year old cat and I don’t want to use anything that will be detrimental to her.
Have you every heard anything about your pet with the dust mites because I have Chihuahuas and I’m scared that I also have dust mites and I don’t know if they need to be treated or not and if so how I have to get rid of because I also have a son I would love to hear back from you as soon as possible I have one night to do this starting here soon
Hello i have a husky. He was itching and had some weeping crusty scabbing down his back. We spent $250. For allergies testing. Yup, hes allergic to dust and storage mites. Damn. Immune therapy was an expensive option so extra cleaning of house. Damn. And extra cleaning of my dogs bedding and toys. With a hot drier setting. Also i was told by dr. Food stored in holding container can house storage and dust mites. Damn. LOL so buying smaller bags of food leaving in bag is best option. But cleaning food storage container is important if still gonna use it.
Suggestions: Buy air-tight pet food containers with gamma lids, such as the brand Vittles Vault. You will save on pet food and prevent dirt as well as pests. I use them for people food too! You should properly wet-clean and dry before refilling. You can safely sanitize the outside of these containers without affecting food inside. If you hate cleaning the gamma lid, consider covering it.
Just was your animals regular cat shampoo for fleas and if there’s mites in the ears peroxide works pour in clean out with cloth
I also have birds and spraying chemicals is deadly I think using the lysol in a bucket of soapy water might be better .
i would like to know where i can purchase some of the products to kill the dust mites in my apartment today.
Its usually sold at Wal-Mart or a pet store.
Dustmite spray away good nite works get it at Home Depot
My house and body was infected with dust mites including my hair.I fogged the house with raid foggers, be sure and follow the direction when using foggers. I wash my hair daily in apple cider vinegar mixture, i take a salt bath daily, i am taking 3 enema back to back daily in order to keep the gut clean. I am taking supplements to build the immune system and last but not least i am drinking an all green vegetable juice three to four times a day. No sugar. no dairy no coffee. My progress has been remarkable. Also I exercise daily for one half hour, i am in the pool for ten minutes, i am in the whirlpool for 15 minutes and the sauna for 15 minutes. However it will take time but be patient with your healing process. Don t forget to drink your 1 gallon of water. Hope this help.
Dont forget that sun and ultraviolet light kills mites.
Please can someone tell me active ingediance that kill the dust mites. I cannot find these items in local stores. Found out my dog is severely allergic to them. Poor dog gets red and itchy head to toe! 🙁
Hello Jodi, unfortunately the products cannot be found/purchased from local stores. I usually buy them online from the Allergy Store, and some others (like Permithrin) from Do Your own Pest Control website. These things are a complete nuisance, and they drive me nuts! Goodluck with everything.
I have 3 dogs, one of which has been allergy tested and is allergic to dust mites as well as trees and grass. The skin specialist was going to give me spray for the home, but on reading the can, decided not to, as it would kill my fish. I have tropical fish in the carpeted lounge and fresh water fish in the tiled kitchen. Is there a product I can use that will not kill my fish ?
seriously some of the comments on here a laughable, dust mites live off your dead skin and not on you, you’ll never ever completely get rid of them in your house, never dry clothes on radiators this will add to the humidity, steam clean carpets mattress, UV light kills them you can buy a UV lamp. Remember you can use all the chemicals and be the most cleanest person in the world but you will never ever rid your house of them, you can only reduce it.
I agree with you I’ve been laughing the whole entire time
Well folks are assuming it’s dust mites cause most ppl are familiar with very few types of mites…namely demodex (and there are subdivisions of that type) and or human scabies but there is also Sarcoptic mange mites many many types of bird mites rat mites fox mites etc etc etc Doctors think mites won’t jump species meaning animal to human but actually there are thousands and thousands of ppl suffering who feel they got it from a pet or animal. Now realistically flesh is flesh and mites can of course jump species. At anyrate if you go to urge cdc petition ashand or birdmites.com you will see many posts of people suffering horrendous ly from skn parasites….mostly mites on steroids. Docs not helping. So when posters try to minimize what someone is going through by quoting the so called facts they are not aware of the broad range silent epidemic of freak show mites happening.
What do you recommend I use? Me and my children are constantly itching. Im sure its dust mites. I just need some advice iv never experienced dust mites until now. Hope u can help. Thank you
Perhaps you all have scabies, go see a doctor, scabies are a mite that burrow in on your skin and make you itch, easily treated, many things cause itching but you can probably rule out dust mites. Like I just said go see your doctor.
Mites dust are everywhere …..!
They are not insects but microrganisms that usually find their perfect habitat in carpets, pillows, beds and dresses !!
You can even take a shower 5 times a day and be the cleanest person in the world but you won’the solve the problem if you are allergic to the dust !!
Before writing such a silly comment, please, first get informed !!
Thank you !!
Once they get into your air conditioning system forget about it. Just trash everything, move and start fresh.
The feces causes allergic reaction so even if you kill the dust mites, you’ll so react. That’s why Lysol works so good, it’s good at cleaning the feces up.
They’ll never go away. Ever.
My dog is allergic to mold & dust mites…wow! What a combo. Thanx to all your input I now know why my zuessy is miserable. The vet had me give him 10mg. tab of clariton once a day several yrs. ago. Good luck in the battle tagainst dust mites
Mites are everywhere I been buying fast food and all those things are already in the food I can see those things on the fruit at the stores I think is in the water we are infested of those things and they get on ur clothes and skin I mean are everywhere this is a world germs invasion sucks
It was suggested flea spray will get rid of dust mites is there a specific one that you can suggest that might be best. Also I Sealed up all my bedding and clothing when I went to wash them after the bag had been sealed for weeks those mighty bites launched an all out attack it feels as if my ski. Is being bit and I’m itching like crazy can I spray all my bedding and clothes with flea spray and should I let my bedding and clothes sit for time sealed up and then wash them .Also can I spray my couch with the flea spray please someone help
Wash your clothes in a hot Wash then use a tumble drier to dry them. Any flea spray will work because they all contain the same ingredients (although cat flea spray won’t contain permethrin, because it’s toxic to them) also spraying clothes with flea spray might give you a rash of your sensitive to the ingredients, I have cats and I’ve used Johnson 4fleas. They kill fleas, dust mites, roaches, spiders and other insects. But make sure your cats are outside for a good while when spraying flea spray on your home.
I was told if you put your items in a bag and put them in your freezer for 24 hours, it kills the mites.
Listen no matter what dust mites will always be in your home fact they say there’s 40 k on every dead skin cell floating in your home IF U R GETTING BIT!!! Vacuum every day for a month wash your bedding in hot water every 5 days and when you shower scrub your body whit a puff or rag NOT JUST BAR OF SOAP IN HAND if you don’t scrub dead skin cells off body your meal for them last step is most important don’t waist your money on all the other shit after that just regular cleaning will control pop but you will never rid your self of them follow this if you’re getting bit if it allergens look else were
JD- I wouldn’t advise them to scrub very hard. Scrubbing yourself vigorously can cause your skin to become itchy and dry. Some of the people writing on here clearly are nurotic and need to see a head doctor. Also over using flea or dust mite sprays in your home can make you sensitive to the chemicals and thus make you itch.
All of the above the information was helpful, I’ve already tried everything out of the grocery store except Lysol for what I bugging me. Now Lysol gets a chance.
If you have small children and pets in the home. Get rid of your carpets!
They are a haven for all kinds of things to live in, and can cause a lot of health problems.
Whoever though having rags for a floor was a good thing should of been shot!
what kind of shampoo can be used to eliminate the mites
You must commit to a very through cleanning of every room, but especially bedrooms. That means cleanning carpets, using shampoo that kills mites, (look up on Internet) washing blinds in the tub, and/or putting curtains in washing machine on very warm, to (hot water preferred). Getting rid of excess toys and espically stuffed toys in kids rooms. All blankets, pillows (foam/or polyester encased in allergy/mite controlled zipper casings after through washing and drying). If you can afford it, throw them out if they are old. Before putting a mite bug allergy zippered covering on mattress, spray mattress with a mite killing, but safe agent. Preferably one made up of lavender, tea tree, ginger oils etc. Safe sprays. Amazon carries it. A air cleanner helps tremendously. It is true you always have mites, however many people are terribly allergic, and they get out of control. Throughly clean each room, get rid of excess stuff that holds dust. Wash windows etc, dust regularly, wash bed linens every week. They feed on dead skin, moisture. Throw back the bed covers to air & dry sheets, bedbugs, mites love moisture. The only time I make the beds now is when I just washed bed covers wipe baseboards in lysol water. Open curtains wide for sunlight. Damp mop wood floors as often as you can stand to. Keep ac, heat vents clean, replace filters in inside units as needed to keep dust down, using a good 3-M allergen filter. Can buy washable and are cheaper in the long run. Watch your kids and adults for red irritated, matted, bloodshot eyes. Sign of colonization of eyelashes and eyelids. This can become a vision threat. Abrasions from mite matter from dead mites can irritate and harm the eyes. Wash eye LIDS & brows with baby shampoo, use clean wash cloths everytime. Buy cheap bundle anywhere. 2x day morning & night. NEVER sleep with makeup on. Mites love oil on eye lids, face eyelashes. Removing excess junk from the home is tedious work, but one you do each room you will be shocked how much clutter is removed. Much easier to clean afterwards. Keep bedrooms off limits to pets and remember pets carry mites from outside inside. If indoor animals twice week. Bathing is a must, helpful to animal is if it is allergic and scratching. Tea tree shampoo is good for humans and animals, mites hate it, but keep out of eyes, harmful to eyes. It is drying to skin. There is tea tree soap I use 3 times week. Amazon or allergy store on Web I suffered eye problems that occurred during mowing season. Led me to eye surgery from constant irritation, abrasions from allergies and mites. I’m terribly allergic. We have a air cleanner in every bedroom. Helped so much. The cleanning is a must, no way to avoid it. I got family, neighbor kids to come help me. The teens made some money and it resulted in a cleanning and throwing out that was so overdue. I wear a filtered mask to dust n clean my own house, buy any drug store walgreens. Good luck, see Dr if family, you and kids are seriously affected. Might be sonething besides mites.
Is there a product that can be added to a cold water wash that will kill dust mites?
It is recommended you wash affected bedding, towels & clothes in hot (130 degrees or higher) to kill dust mites. My allergist told me that if I had fabric that must be washed in cold water to add several drops of tea tree oil. Not as effective as washing in hot water, but it does help more than washing in cold water alone. You can find tea tree oil in almost any pharmacy, health food store, or online. I bought some on Amazon.com…they have everything, lol.
Mites don’t live on humans they live on moisture and dry skin. There is a Norwex spray you can use. Buy a humidity detector for your house you should not have more then 45% moisture in your house. I use the allergen furnish filters too. I have found my allergies to mites to be much better.
My cat Hass developed symptoms of dust mite allergy. He sleeps on my bed duvet and my rooms are carpeted. Is there a product and will be safe to use with pets
THIS WORKS…for me!!!! I have Dust Mite Infestation and Open Sore Bites all over my body. I have been trying different things. Here is what works for me: Drink a 1/2 cup of Apple Cider Vinegar with 1 cup of water and add cinnamon for better taste. I drink it at night before bed. I down it and then drink a glass of water. I take Garlic, Turmeric and Milk Thistle supplements. Also drinking mint tea. They hate Menthol, Camphor & peppermint. They LOVE people who eat a lot of sugar and yeast products. So everyday I have been putting on Saylic Acid cleanser. I got it at the dollar tree for a buck! I put it on my sores and I can’t believe it but they are drying up and dropping off!! Also in the shower I make it hot as I can take and then rinse the tub and put on the acne cleanser all over my body..let it sit 5 or 10 min. then I take a hot bath with menthol, camphor epsom salts and get out and put raw coconut oil on your whole body. Then I bandage the bad sores with Nexcare so I it doesn’t scar. I spray everything I can with Lysol and also Alcohol poor into a spray bottle. Just spray everything you can. Especially the mattress, pillows soak it and l let dry. I then put 6 bottom sheets on my mattress and 3 pillow cases on all pillows. I sprinkle a $1 (dollar tree) menthol powder on the carpet and vacuum it up and then I do it again Every Night before bed! I have been spraying my walls ceilings all furniture with just plain rubbing alcohol or Lysol. Then I sprinkle the menthol powder..(Gold Bond) all over my sheets, blankets and just fluff it in the air. My cat has this too!!! So I have been rubbing him down with lavender dryer sheets…oh….which I also lay the dryer sheet inside my bed under the covers and surround the whole bed. So I got ear mite treatment and also a collar. I also put the menthol powder all over my cat and rub his fur really good and he is not itching within 2 days!!! I also give him a teaspoon of the apple cider vingar which I have to force down him but he feels great afterwards!! I also rub lavendar oil around his neck and ears and right on his throat and he goes right to sleep. So I have been dealing with this crap since last June!!! I have been trying everything! I know if you have a High Acid Diet….they love that and they hate an alkaline diet. So I put 1/8 tsp of baking soda in my water to make it alkaline or a lemon which is acid but absorbs as alkaline ash. Also!!! If you feel like itching or if you feel like your being bit….carry hand sanitizer and put it on that spot right away. I am pretty sure I have the spider dust mites because my open sores have black Hairs growing out of it and I pulled one out and the follicle was very (disgusting) The spider dust mites burrow under your skin and they go to the bottom of your hair follicles and I guess they hang out there and push their webs upwards..it’s crazy!! But I have been going insane for many months!! I am just now getting some relief! I am hoping this goes away. I have itched them so bad that they are infected now and please try not to itch because that causes inflammation and also infection. It could turn into Sepsis and you could die. This really sucks but if you keep up the routine I think they will go away. I am sorry for anyone who ha this shit and Good Luck.. I hope I help in some way!!!
I am a medical student and very concerned after reading the posts on this site. I think too many people are confusing dust mites with other pests and skin infections. Here is some information that may help some.
Dust mites exist in ALL households, just like bacteria exists in ALL households. Both are microscopic in size and cannot be seen with the naked eye. Just like bacteria, you cannot FEEL dust mites crawling on you or crawling on your feet. If your home has dust, you have dust mites. Dust mites DON’T BITE! Some people, especially those with asthma, other respiratory illnesses, food allergies or sensitivities, or compromised immune systems are actually allergic to dust mites or dust mite feces, and those people must be very diligent about reducing the number of dust mites in their homes, but for the average person, just washing your sheets in hot water and vacuuming your bedroom once per week will keep the dust mite population low enough to never cause any adverse health effects.
If you are getting BIT by something at night in bed, you most likely have bed bugs. You can inspect your mattress closely, especially in the corners of the mattress where the material curls under, and look for bed bugs (which can easily be seen with the naked eye.)
If it’s not bed bugs, then you may have fleas (which you can also see on your pet with the naked eye if you look closely at him.) The ONLY RELIABLE WAY to get rid of bed bugs or fleas is to call a professional exterminator. Many offer a set price for several treatments, or a guarantee to return if the first treatment does not kill all of them. You can spend tons of money and risk your health by mixing chemicals from various do-it-yourself foggers and sprays that promise to kill bed bugs and fleas, but most people spend as much money on repeated do-it-yourself treatments to no avail and end up calling the pros anyway because the do-it-yourself route fails.
Scabies is an allergic reaction to a mite that burrows deep into your skin, lays eggs and multiplies. You can get scabies from your pet, another person, or another household that has them. The only way to get rid of scabies is to see your doctor. They will prescribe medicine to kill the scabies mites that have burrowed into your skin.
Impetigo is a highly contagious bacterial infection that causes crusty sores to erupt on your skin. This also causes uncontrollable itching, and can easily be spread to other humans. It is rare to get impetigo from a pet, but is possible. Impetigo can be diagnosed by a doctor and treated with oral and topical (cream) medicine. Because impetigo is so highly contagious, all bedding, towels, clothing, and personal toiletries owned by any infected people MUST BE thrown away or washed in very HOT water. The possibility of reinfection with impetigo is very high and may require repeated visits to a doctor before it is eradicated.
Ringworm is actually a fungus that is easily spread from pets (mostly cats) to humans. Ringworm also causes uncontrollable itching. There are over-the-counter creams available to treat ringworm, however, it is best advised to see a doctor for diagnosis. He/she can then prescribe an anti-fungal medicine to eradicate the infection.
These are just some of the infestations and skin conditions that may be causing your itch, sores and rashes.
Don’t assume it’s dust mites. When it comes to something as important as your home’s safety, your family’s and your pets health, not to mention your sanity, it is priceless to seek out a professional.
Best of luck.
I beg to disagree with you. I can see dust mites without any device. You can see them too in the reflection of overhead light (or even daylight) in water. To find out put some liquid whether oil or any other chemicals in a plate and put it under the foot of your bed and check out for yourself under the reflection of light. They are transparent except for their legs which have black ends. I can also feel them crawling on me especially when they are over my hair. I have worked very hard to reduce the allergic effect, but my biggest problem is that they do not allow me to sleep when they crawl in thousands or millions at night. I have been looking desperately for that special chemical solution(that is NOT harmful to humans) to kill them all, but in vain so far. I have tried with so many liquid solutions, but they keep on coming on my bed where my mattress is sealed in a double plastic bag. For the time being only putting the dehumidifier on allows me sleep. During day they keep on crawling on me. I put body oil on me and they do bite. I have also some itching too along with the discomfort of the constant crawling. They make life very difficult to live. At times I feel that my own house is like hell.
You have bed bugs, not dust mites. Big difference.
Call a professional exterminator. He’ll confirm it for you.
You’re silly! Don’t undermind people’s experience! If you have bed bugs you will eventually see them.
I feel you , but know they STING me . Mentally wearing me down . Change bed everyday an have for months now , tried all the oils , poisons , bleach etc.. I’m at my end ! Help !
Hi, like many on here, I have had the itchy, crawling, night time bugs…. I had it for a year & a half. I did EVERYTHING – EVERYDAY. It was not a pretty outcome. I had to move. But I am convinced it was fleas and lice. Not bedbugs & not dust mites. I have talked to other people in my area of PA & they too, did everything they could, but had a flea infestation that wouldn’t go away. I had to leave the house, but my mom stayed and she is fine (but she did have all the symptoms before). I got my dog on Parastar Plus and this helped a lot. I really believe it all started from certain plants and also I would see mold in the top of the soil. Now I don’t live with indoor plants. The fleas just seemed immune to the foggers and the usual pet flea treatments. I was not strong enough to stay. But again, my mom and dog are fine. I’m sorry this is my outcome, to share with you, but just know, it is some combo of fleas, lice &/or mites, not bedbugs. Good Luck to you all***
Did u get a reply,,? What did u do to stop the dust mites? Any sprays ? Help…
Sorry but you haven’t dug deeply enough! Dust mites have two kinds affecting humans. Then there are bird and rat and other mites. Demodex is dust mite. Demodex Folliculitis is caused by the mite mating and laying eggs in our hair follicles. Demidex breviary mite lay eggs in sebaceous glands.
It FEELS LIKE they bite as they have no anus and die after mating and egg laying – their feces then comes out as the pulverize to a liquid. People are allergic to feces.
Their digging in to skin feels like bugs crawling on eyes, ears, skin, genitals, scalp, so the itching and wiggling feeling is crazy-making!
You cannot see them. They do not make webs. They are NOT scabies. They are not bed bugs.
They are a microorganism. Like any other live everywhere. Like every other if ones own immune is good there’s more resistance. Like any bacterial infection, if you become infested they will breed on your body.
There is a vicious cycle: the host scratches -> causes lymph to emerge -> the eggs live on lymph. People cannot keep from wanting to pick at sebaceous bumps or the bump of a hair follicle. They desire to pick it out. This just enforces the cycle.
You can find flakes of skin on mattresses or clothes, or rug where either people picked them out, or they fell out. They are off-white with little points on them. This is hair follicle covering. They cover over their eggs or the immature follicle regrows like this. Sometimes it’s a dark black hair; sometimes it’s like a weird immature hair growing – a short tub. In any case it’s a bump and inflamed follicle. Sometimes you have one pore that keeps trying to grow a hair or a sebaceous bump. If you pick it, it seems to aggravate all of them to start itching or wiggling in ears, nose, eyes, etc.
Sometimes it’s very weird how scabs produce a very very very hard orange lymph crust. Picking this causes a lot of bleeding.
There’s no easy answer. A total repetitive cleaning of entire house, inside body and out is required.
You are right they don’t bite. If you can see a bug, it’s NOT Demodex dust mites. It’s scabies, bed bugs or something else.
I interviewed a scientist that authors required textbooks at Princeton in Science department. Apparently these microbes are showing up more resilient Lucas the environment degrades. Additionally, people eat too much sugar. If treated like any other bacteria or fungus, or virus-> stay away from processed foods, sugar, dairy except butter, and lactobacillus, DO eat Vitamin B,C,A and D. Bolster immune support.
True, there’s a lot of misunderstanding, but China and Russia and other nations are a good 30 years ahead of the U.S.
It’s extremely difficult to isolate causes of why these micotoxins bloom and suddenly reproduce geometrically.
You may be interested that nanobots are being built to replicate mites’ “group think” and tenacity -> as both a bio-weapon and cure for cancer and other diseases as arterial clogging plaques (atherosclerosis).
There is vastly more than you’ve reported.
Some things that extend the life of dust mites are these:
• There’s a synergy with mold development sometimes.
• Never dry shave legs or body over carpets! Impossible to vacuum out and mites live on protein of skin and hair.
• Never pluck eyebrows in a bedroom -> use bathroom! Clean it!
• Don’t cut nails and leave in tissue, waste basket or night tables. Don’t file nails and have the dust in living room or bedroom.
• Do not clip cuticles and think “Oh it’ll get vacuumed, and leave it for days. Mites proliferate.
• Don’t hang clothes to dry mites live moisture in air.
• Don’t leave dirty laundry out to pile up. Mites survive on oils from body and dander. People do not realize how much skin we shed.
• Keep circulation and venting air going for healthy house. Don’t let anyone live in a closed door room.
There’s more but I have to go now.
People can be carriers of an over abundance of them and not have feeling symptoms until you point them out such as on face where red dots appear as inflamed pores that don’t go away.
You can’t ever got rid of all mites not bacteria! It’s just like any other microorganism. They’re showing up more, especially after a flu or illness.
Doctors in America are new to treating newly emerging diseases. Demodex allergy and infestation is on the rise. If people think they can SEE it, you can’t. If you see any bug whatsoever it’s not Demodex.
And yes, Demodex is bleeping hell.
Good Luck!
This Poster “Happy Medium” is referring to what is commonly known as Eyelash Mites, NOT dust mites.
Yes, Eyelash Mites are microscopic in size and translucent in color – .010 to .4mm depending on the genus. Yes, these are called mites, but again, they are NOT dust mites.
These tiny parasitic mites live in or near hair follicles of mammals. Demodex mites are commonly found on humans near hair follicles, and they usually do not cause any symptoms. Some people with suppressed immune systems may have an allergic reaction to them, and there has been some research showing a preliminary link between demodex and rosacea, but these are just another of the millions of microscopic organisms that exist on the surface of human skin. Just as our skin and our bodies contain millions of bacteria, some people may have an overgrowth of demodex mites. Scientists are trying to determine what other skin diseases may be linked to demodex mite infestation.
Again, demodex mites are NOT dust mites.
That’s like saying that Spider Crabs (that live in the ocean) are the same as a Black Widow Spider. Both have the word spider in the name, but they are NOT the same.
Can you tell me where you are practicing medicine I want to make sure I don’t see you. These are mites and you can feel them on your skin.
You’re a medical student. Student not a Doctor. Bedbugs do not have wings, they come out at night, and stay near the host. Bedbugs don’t have long legs, so they don’t jump.
Fungus can grow in the conditions that the people are speaking. Fungi feed on anything, they are airborne threats, they live on ceiling, molding, carpets, walls, and can appear as fibers, threads, spores, white chalk, black dots, and silicone or salt grains. They love to fall from the ceiling on your bed, and like mites, they reproduce without a sexual mate. The symptoms are all the same for as mites and they bite like bedbugs, and behave like scabies. Just like mushroom poisoning, they have the same effect or the same symptoms, they get hyper active in computer light and cell phones.
I have to agree with you about tge computer light i was trying fugure out why was i itching so badly everytime i sit at my pc i thought there was something coming from the air conditioner.
You guys need to see a real doctor. You can not 100% get rid of dust mites. They are everywhere, your carpet, pillow, bedding, skin, AC, and clothes. All you can do is reduce them. Wash your sheets in hot water and dry them in the machine every 5 days. Vaccum every week and use get the corners of the room and under your bed. The eat your dead skin wgich you shred every second. They don’t bite your skin but they crawl on you which you get a tickle feeling or feel scratchy. You can walk on your carpet ir turn on your AC and kick up dust mites on your furniture, that being said, vaccum all that dust on your carpet, wipe down everything and spray lysol it works. Keep it routine and you’re good!!! I’ve been slacking on cleaning and just started feeling them on my feet so need to take a trip to wal mart!
The Cure. People will tell you to kill dust mites on the body by the use of topical ointments. Actually, You kill dust mites by what you take internally. Take large doses of oil of oregano supplements throughout your day. This oil permeates through your pores and kills your dust mites. Use coconut oil over your skin to get a good nights. However the oregano is the cure. Look up oregano and dust mites on line for reassurance and then buy it to be relieved.
Hi…i have been battling house dust mites… for 3 mths now..they have multiplied…over time..they are..in my hair, clothes,my car..i have washed mt clothes…in hot water..ive also..put them in the freezer…ive been cleaning also nothin seem to work..i have spent alot of money…on this..my immune system…is real bad…i have 3 kids..and i am really concerned…that it will happen to them as well…can someone..please help me!!!
I have suffered for 2 years from mites infestations. I have finally cured them, and now I decided to share them to all those who are in need out there.
First, my dog drops pool of dandruff everyday and they had severe itch all the time. Then it infested my bed that I had to wake up every night for months.
These mites are invisible and cause bumps on your skin. And you feel these critters crawling on your skin and feet. They are usually found on feet, stomach area and genitals.
I have tried permethrin and other misc insecticide products and sprays, diatomaceous earth, flea traps, and etc. Summary, they don’t work. I have wasted at least $1000 for them.
Then I bought this benzyl benzoate spray product called Demitze from local pharmacy. I sprayed my bed, pillow, curtains and clothes. Then I manage to recover 50%. Then, I removed all the weeds in my house surrounding and apply herbicide to keep then in check, and bathe with neem soap and white mustard, and vacummn the floor twice a day. Yet, I have not fully remove then.
Finally, I found a great solution. It’s a secret that can save your pocket if you would have found it earlier.
First, get incense that are made of natural miticide HIGH QUALITY sandalwood, ylang ylang, rosemary, lemon grass.
Second, turn on dehumidifier or aircon in Dry mode.
Third, burn them twice a day for at least a couple of months, until the smell stays on your furniture, walls and ceiling. (Anyway, you will start to see effect on the 1st time you burn it)
The drying effect of these incense smoke, together with dehumidifier and its miticide properties will eliminate every single mites. You may also try with natural essential oil heat them up over water/diffuser/water atomizer. Beware: do not burn candles inside air conditioned room because it will deplete all the oxygen and cause death.
Hope these helps all those in need out there.
Just to share a 2nd method.
Place a wet cloth/rag on the floor on those areas where you itch the most.
Mostly near sink, toilet, underneath your wooden tables.
Spray it with mites killer such as benzyl benzoate / demitze.
The damp cloth will attract these creatures, and further killed by the neuro-toxin benzyl benzoate.
Remember to place the damp cloth on the floor so that it is low enough for them to reach them.
I’m at the Hyatt in new Orleans right now dealing with this. Another business colleague said he had the same itching problems in his room last night. It’s the comforter I think. I sprayed Lysol last night, then had the room serviced today. Got in from my meetings and laid down. Blammo itching all over and can darn near feel them landing on me.
I think a lot of the posters here are grossly misinformed. Dust mites DO NOT bite humans or our pets. They feed off our dead skin cells & the discomfort you’re feeling (if dust mites are the true problem) is a result of an allergy to their fecal matter…they are NOT biting you. They tend to live in and around their food source or the places where our bodies slough off the most skin: Mattresses & bedding (this includes pet bedding), furniture & carpeting…especially dark, carpeted areas undrt mattresses & upholstered furniture. If you honestly feel like something is biting you, you are probably being bitten by something else, lIke Sarcoptes Scabiei, or the Scabies Mite. They bite…Dust mites do not.
Both my dog & I have severe dust mite allergies. According to my allergist, dust mites are the most common indoor environmental allergen for both humans and our pets. People commonly mistakenly think that they are allergic to being bitten. Not true. What you are reacting to is coming into contact with the mites’ droppings, spoor, fecal matter, poop…whatever you want to call it. Don’t believe me? Look it up. Google dust mite allergies, or better yet ask your doctor.
In addition to all of the things to get rid of dust mites/dust inside your home, like lysol, cleaning, vacuuming, getting a dehumidifier, etc. you can also help yourself by using bioAllers brand homeopathic treatment for allergies of Mold, Yeast, and Dust Mites. I’m allergic to all three and when I use this product on a regular basis, it tames my allergies. The hardest one for me is mold, and when I use this I never have problems with dust mites. My house is clean, but now I am living in a more humid area and having to start using the homeopathic treatment again because the dust mites are out of control in sauna of a city, where I live.
I keep my laptop on the floor next to my bed.
When I use the laptop I see them walking on the white screen.
They squash easily, but there’s so many of them
Wam I gonna do.
I have just started using the medicated menthol powder, as suggested in a previous comment, from dollar tree this week . I sprinkled it on bedding and the carpet in my bedroom and noticed an immediate difference for the better. I do not sprinkle a lot of powder, just enough to see it in the air and not make a white blotch on the bedding material or carpet. I then vacuum after about 15 minutes. I am also using essential oil and water in the air. I want to research to see if there is something with menthol that can be included while doing laundry. I want to be careful so the house and clothing don’t smell like a pharmacy or a hospital. Also, have to be careful around children and animals. I have spent at least $1,000 over the past year and a half looking for a solution. Products specifically indicating they will solve the dust mite problem only lessen it temporarily. I am very clean and dust and vacuum daily, but it has not helped until now with menthol. Also, I have read articles that say mites cannot live in duct work. They may not be able to live in the ducts, but they can use the ducts as a carrier and those that do live are blown out into other rooms to thrive. Vent filters can be used, but not all vents because that may cause problems with the furnace and A/C. My problem started early last year when I sold my house and, because I had heart surgery at the same time, I was not able to pack my belongings myself. Relatives helped and, I think, used boxes that had already been used for other things to pack up my things. The boxes were not new and unused. I did the unpacking myself as I became stronger, and could feel the mites on my skin, hair and the clothing I unpacked. As I tried to solve the problem it just became worse. I could feel them in the air when I walked into a room. It was summer, and with the A/C on they spread. As I said above, I have spent a lot of money trying to solve the problem. So far the menthol seems to have made the biggest impact. Noticeable and in a very short time. But, be careful and don’t go overboard with the menthol. Remember, it has a medicated odor, so use it sparingly, if you use it. i hope I have finally found the solution. I have almost felt like screaming at times, especially when I feel mites crawling on my face and body. Friends and relatives would probably think I have a mental issue, if I told them, because I don’t think most people can feel the mites. I have taken notes from other posts. Some of the posts are from people who are laughing at the rest of us with the mite problem. I would not wish this problem on others. It is a serious problem. Not fun. Not laughable.
You guys are all retarded. Go see a doctor for Health anxiety. If you think you can feel dust mites or that they’re biting you, then you’re misinformed and very ignorant.
My nightmare began 2 weeks after cleaning up what looked like black pepper, covering a six-foot-long tile ledge separating my walk-in bath/tub from a window. While I was still trying to figure it out, some of them MOVED. It wasn’t just a few; it was hundreds! I had heard of dust mites, so I just wiped them up. About two weeks later, I began to itch. A total of 12 ugly sores appeared on my neck, arms, thighs, ankles and chest. Since then, I have become a paranoid mite detective, read every on-line horror-story and sent for a dozen remedies, including KleenGreen, diatomaceous earth, sulfur soap, tea tree oil, lavender oil, hydrogen peroxide, and Scabisil ointment. I think my early use of KleenGreen helped to control them; but they remain……even in my mouth! I see tiny ones in the sink when I spit out my mouthwash. The sores are healing, but now they leave minuscule itchy bites — especially on my forehead and cheeks. I take 2- hour Clorox baths leaving Démodéx shampoo on my head. I sought the advice of a pest-control “expert”, but was not satisfied with his knowledge; plus I don’t know if fumigating the house will work if the pests are still living on my body!
My 90th birthday is next month. I worked until I was 62, when I met and married my dear Charlie — now 92 and suffering from Alzheimer’s Disease. Thankfully, he is not affected by the mites. With the help of caregivers 10 hours a day, we hope to continue to stay in our home, though my arthritic shoulders make it challenging. Dealing with these demonic mites is driving me to distraction, not helped at all by the condescending looks of disbelief — even from my doctor.
Dust mites in home and me dog had pest man do all house and now all on face eye and dog like mad how long this take kill all tham fro house pest control done home but got worse now when die
That is Bird Mites NOT dust mites!! Get an exterminator!
A year ago I started getting hives and rashes regularly. I have seen my doctor twenty times or so and also a dermatologist and an allergist. I have had biopsies and allergy tests which have shown mixed results of insect bites and sever sensitivity. I have used the scabies cream twice. I have also taken prednisone and huge amounts of anti-histamines. Steroid creams, antibiotics, baths, creams of various sorts, diatamatious earth, neem oil, aloe vera, light therapy, on and on and on. Now for months husband has the same symptoms, and the dog is itching. There is no sign of bed bugs of fleas and the doctor keeps going back to bug bites. I think there are plenty of things doctors do not know, and if you put all your belief in them, you will be disappointed. Conventional wisdom is often only somewhat accurate. For example, I was told by my last doctor that a spider bite I got several years ago could not be a brown recluse because those spiders do not live in California, but guess what…. it was a brown recluse bite after all, verified by 2 specialist.
There is something in our bedroom, and I hope going to your doctor 20 times helps you, but it has not helped us.
Myself and one of my dogs has Dust mite allergy Antihistamine has been very helpful with the itching for both of us
I am terribly allergic to dust mites. Any bed with crawling bed mites would give me a sleepless night plus coughing. My personal remedies are (1) vaccum the bed and pillows regularly ie. twice or thrice a week (2) change bed sheets and pillow cover once a week (3) remove bed sheet and sprinkle powdered camphor on the bed ( one or two small cubes are sufficient and you can powder it with your fingers) (4) and most important of all is to make the bed every day.
Some people just need to stop talking…. Telling everyone that they are not being bitten by mites and actually making fun of them after they have shared their horrifying experiences.
There are about 45,000 types of mites, and many of them do the very things that people have posted about. It’s ironic that some people think reading a little bit gives them the right to accuse others of being ignorant of facts… when they themselves have not read enough on the topic.
This is not to say however, that everyone who feels like they are being bitten by mites actually has them, as many fungal infections have similar symptoms and sensations. The most important thing in the beginning is to identify what is causing the symptoms, and if it is a mite, what type it is. Doctors and dermatologists do not seem to be very helpful with this, however.
For general mite treatment, after all of my reading, I would recommend to use a strong essential oil, such as cedar oil. You need to solve the problem in your environment before trying to rid your body of the mites or else it will never end. (Not saying you can’t do both at the same time, however)
To do this, use a fogger to disperse the essential oil mixed with water and alcohol into the entire house. After this, continue spraying on a regular basis with the oil or oil mixture you have chosen.
If I were to mix more oils with the cedar, they would be neem, eucalyptus, clove, tea tree or peppermint. Other options are camphor, lemon, cinnamon, rosemary, oregano, lavender, caraway, chenopodium, fennel, garlic, geranium, matrecary, rose, anise seed…
Mix the essential oils with another carrier oil such as grapeseed or coconut oil and apply topically to get any mites out of your skin. Many essential oils can also be taken internally. This seems to be the healthiest and most cost effective way to take care of mites. When washing blankets and clothes, add the essential oil to your laundry detergent.
Hope this helps! Don’t give up! 加油!
Enquire about having your house treated with Ozone. Call an ozone operator for details. We ridded our 2 storied house car and the lot from mites this Jan 2018. Had no miters since – wonderful. Prior to that it was like as if they were chasing us out of our house. There was nowhere to go. Ozone solved everything. Graham.
Incredible theories, dust mites don’t bite, you can’t see them, if you think your itching or being bit by a dust mite, your off your rocker. You get an allergic reaction from them in your resportory organs. A crawling, itching sensation is caused by a mite that burrows under your skin, like a scabie. It all boils down to one thing, if you don’t maintain a level of cleanliness in your living environment or your body, these critters will move in on you. But to assume this and that you’ll go bankrupt before you get to the problem source. Don’t assume anything is wrong with you until you see a doctor, or a pest proffesional, L.O.L.
My poor cat has an allergy to dust mites, I’ve worked this out myself by searching the net. After wasting money at a vet who just said”Mmm she has fleas that’s £80 oh and some spray apply this to the neck, that’s anouther £25 thank you” Rrrrr ! I thought these people were highly trained
profesionals not product sales repps’ This was not just the one vet !
It’s my cat that has the real problem she has an allergy to their bites, which in turn gives me a problem seeing her suffer poor thing I bought some spray witch works well but one must spray regually at least once a week.
We had dust mites and it amounted to that eventually it was like as if they drove us out of our house. Where could we go without taking them with us? I got some advice that superseded all other comments about how to deal with them. Forget about all the sprays and lotions debugging etc. I got advice from the manager of pest control for the country where I live. His instructions were quite simple. Have you house treated with an ‘ozone’ treatment. It was marvelous its 3 months since we had the house treated. Upstairs, downstairs and my car in the downstairs area. I had to vacate the house for 24 hours. Mites are all gone including those in leather chairs, beds, carpets cushions, the lot – the whole house. Amazing. Not very expensive. I thoroughly recommend this to anybody. It also can remove odours smoke damage etc.
Bi-monthly 30 minute ozone shock treatments using the Forever Ozone Shock Treatment Protocol kills mites and neutralizes their feces – making it harmless to breath.
Ty to everyone. I have lived with this nightmare since the early 60’s.
Our family was given clothes pillows blanket from either a damp garage or an attic. Nvr ever take things from there, not even books or papers or material cloth. i was only about 6 yrs old and tnxfully i am now 60 plus. Maybe there were [rat mites] God only know. Truthfully.
But they live inside of you especially ones damp mouth. So i hate to talk to ppl bkz they will fly out in trillons to the air and onto the warm bodies causing ppl to sneeze and to start scratching- some people would get a bite. So the suggestion to rid ones environment and then take the esstential oils sounds accurate. I have always feel that i needed to rid them from my body to become free from Mite infestation I also realize that they do live everywhere and that we all have them but some of us are infested in our bodies. I have nvr given up. Although for years i searched. The health department come to our home and didnt believe it. MOST-Doctor’s–well i wont even mention their non existent knowledge. Although one old army captain told me that they exp’d this in the army yrs back and that the army had to burn everything associated w/that situation. He proceeded to say…lady you got a problem. Boy do I!!! Again ty very very much for the HOPE!!!
I am allergic to dust, so I guess that really means to the mites & poop. I itch everywhere at different times. Being in bed or on my couch is driving me nuts. I was planning to use a laundry additive, use a Housmile UV 836 vacuum cleaner with a long handle (for under the bed and couch), spray Eradicator, and purchase new mattress and box spring encasements. I’m 65 with limited financial means. Are you telling me Ozone treatment works? I find it hard to believe Lysol works, although I use on my countertops and floors, toliet, and shower. I don’t know where to start. What should I do first. I have to stay fragrance free, so no candles or scents. I am having a cancerous lesion removed soon and would like to get started somewhere. HELP!!
Hi guys I’ve been getting bites on me face and body around me neck shoulders upper back and chest etc they look like spots I’ve tried everything to get rid of whatever is causing this reaction and making my life a living hell I’m not sure if it’s bed bugs or dust mites i have just done some research and find out dust mites do not bite so don’t know what it can be just today i was sitting and watching a tv show in the afternoon and got bitten several times on my upper hand just by me wrist can anyone help me shine some light i would be highly great full and appreciate any advice given i also got rid of all furniture like me bed wardrobe etc and still getting bitten 🙁
What is ozone treatment? Please help me. I would try it.
Bed bugs leave red spots ,usually 3 in a row ,it’s called “breakfast lunch dinner” ,itchy as hell. Fleas itch as well. As far as all the “mites” i don’t kno altho I was ,still am ,freakin out due to a bird ,then another bird, then a nest hatching in my drop ceiling! One single bird was caught from under my sink. Now. About DUST MITES!!! We All have them, thyr is NO getting rid of them. They live and feed on our skin. And wherever a human sits ,lays (so couches. Bedding!!! ) dust mites feed on dead skin cells. Thyr is No getting rid of them. Rubbing Alcohal kills them i think. But it doesn’t matter ,all you can do is . CLEAN CLEAN CLEAN!!!! and it sux! Especially for those of us who ,for whatever reasons , live in houses/Apts that are alwzz dusty. Old ,moldy, even roads nearby. Obviously keep pets clean. Try not to have carpet. Even curtains are bad. Anything that accumulates dust thyr will be dust mites. Good luck ,myself included!
I’ve got same problems and I’ve done tons and tons of research over the past year. Unfortunately this has become an all time high health hazard according to the CDC and WHO. Although people have been suffering for a long time, DOCTORS DONT HAVE ANY IDEA WHAT THEY ARE DEALING WITH. This was not taught in Med School. For years doctors have been diagnosing this as “Atopic Dermatitis” which actually is a ballpark diagnosis of all kinds of skin issues which they don’t know. I’ve been diagnosed with eczema, allergies, upper respiratory infections and all kinds of other stuff when in reality it is DUST MITE ALLERGIES and Doctors today don’t know a damn thing about them. So they diagnose as ATOPIC DERMATITIS give you steroids and antibiotics which cause more problems because of the side effects. It’s a never ending battle that you have to fight yourself. I don’t even go to the doctor anymore for these symptoms because they cant help but they charge a bundle anyway. Every post I’ve read on here so far…. everybody has been right. It affects people differently and it does mess with your mind !!! Last Doctor sent me to a Psychiatrist….. that was the bottom line for me so I started doing my own research. Believe it or not but the USA is behind on a lot of Medical Research as compared to Russia and the UK. We are just now starting to learn about unconventional medicine like Essential Oils, Herbs and Spices even though they have been used for medicinal purposes since the beginning of time !!!! The Rain Forests are where many of these medicines are grown BUT they are being threatened….trees are being cut down like crazy…. they are literally being destroyed…. I could go on and on but it just makes me mad. The BIG PHARMACEUTICAL COMPANIES don’t care about saving lives… all they care about is MONEY !!!
Whatever this may be I would like to know how 2 people can live in same house bit one be agfected? I eat a ton of sugar and my house mate is diabetic. She is symptomless. I do have an autoimmune disorder and am severely anemic at times. It is literally driving me crazy and my sister already thinks I’m insane about it.
medical disposable is prevalent up
